Power BI consulting

We have worked with Power BI since its 2015 release. We build the data models, reports and dashboards behind it, set up sharing and security, and train the people who use it.

What Power BI is

Power BI is Microsoft’s business intelligence platform. People build data models and reports in Power BI Desktop, then publish, share and secure them in the Power BI service. Today it runs on and alongside Microsoft Fabric.

The data model

The semantic model is the heart of every good report: tables, relationships and measures written once in DAX and reused everywhere. Most Power BI problems trace back to it.

The service

Workspaces, apps, scheduled refresh, row-level security and sharing, administered centrally so the right people see the right numbers.

Our Power BI services

Six areas of work, from the licence decision to the people reading the reports.

  • Licensing and Fabric capacity

Choosing between per-user licences and Fabric capacity, and sizing capacity for how your organization actually uses reports.

  • Data modeling

Star schemas, relationships and DAX measures designed for accuracy first, with performance close behind.

  • Reports and dashboards

Pages that answer a question at a glance, with drill-through for the people who need the detail.

  • Sharing and security

Workspaces, apps and row-level security set up so access matches your organization, and stays that way.

  • User training

Hands-on training for report readers and authors, built around your own data rather than generic examples.

  • Improving what you have

A review of an existing Power BI implementation, then targeted fixes for slow reports, conflicting numbers and sprawl.

Power BI in practice

A few examples from our work:

  • Healthcare

Power BI dashboards used by thousands of people

  • Retail

Power BI training for an international retailer

  • Retail

Store-level reporting in near real time

  • Finance

    Metrics that agree across departments

See it in a Power BI demo

If you are evaluating Power BI, or wondering what a better implementation would look like, ask us for a demo. Tell us a little about your data and the decisions you report on, and we will arrange a time.
